How Do I Change MY Life?

We’ve all been there, scratching our heads, googling the answer to How do I change my life? Everybody’s asked it. I’ve asked it. So how do I change my freaking life? How do I go from where I’m at to where I want to be? How do I change my life? And let’s be real, we are asking the question because we are frustrated with life. Maybe your life has not turned out the way you thought it would. If your life has not turned out the way you thought it would, welcome to the party!

We all have got plans until we start living and start taking action. And it always turns out a little bit differently. Frustration, Disappointment, there’s a Bible verse that kind of speaks to that. It says Hope deferred makes the heart sick. Some of you have been having big dreams and big visions, but it hasn’t come to pass.

And you’re like, what the heck? Why can’t I create the life I want? How do I create the life I want. It’s a pretty big question. There are a whole lot of different answers, but let me give you a few answers that have helped me along the way. I’ve watched them play out for myself and the hundreds of people that I have coached.

So you want to change your life, you’ve got to change your blueprint. What do I mean by blueprint? Your blueprint is that subconscious part of your identity that includes your thought patterns and you are not even aware of it. And by the time you’re out of elementary school, your blueprint and thought patterns are established.

Now if I were to dial that to another degree, I would say you really have two BIG blueprints, and they overlap, and here’s number one – your identity blueprint. WHO Are YOU? What do YOU believe? What do YOU believe about YOURSELF? What do YOU believe about Others? What do YOU believe about God, the Universe, Faith? What do YOU believe about life? What do YOU believe about life? What you believe in those areas is really going to determine your identity blueprint; your way of living, your way of interacting with the world in which you live.

The second blueprint is your financial blueprint… it kind of falls under the other one, but it is a big enough deal and is such a huge part of what I am going to say. If you do the work it is really going to help you change your financial blueprint!

And I have another book recommendation!! In the book, we really dive deep on those two areas of your blueprint. I got the honor of working on this project because of the coaching in the book – it isn’t just a book, it is a workbook that really can help you change your life and focuses on both aspects of your blueprint.

Can we talk real practical: that’s the big picture. You want to change your life… You want to change the results you’re getting… YOU NEED TO CHANGE YOUR BLUEPRINT! And here’s the thing, you already have a blueprint. You want to know what that is? Look at your life because the life you have is a reflection of your blueprint.

Again, it is possible that you couldn’t even articulate what your blueprint is if I asked you right now. But if you look at your life, I could probably articulate it for you objectively… maybe even better than you could just in a brief conversation, because the life that you have is a reflection of your current blueprint. The big dirty little secret is that everyone thinks, my blueprint is my blueprint and that is all I can ever be. The truth is YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR BLUEPRINT! YOU ARE NOT THAT BLUEPRINT. YOU ARE NOT THE PATTERNS YOU’VE CREATED.

There’s a little concept called neuroplasticity, it is the idea that your brain is plastic… malleable. It is changeable. You can change the patterns and pathways of thoughts, pathways of feelings, pathways of being. They used to think scientifically that your brain was only malleable in childhood. They believed that as you grew concepts, ideas, feelings and thoughts were concrete and just done. They thought they were unchangeable and that has been debunked. I can give you two ways and I have probably shared this in previous blogs (repetition is the motor of learning)… TWO WAYS YOU CAN REWIRE YOUR BLUEPRINT:

REPETITION

I did just say that. It is the motor of all learning. There can be no mastery, if you get tired of doing the things you want to do to create success in your life. You want to create success in your business? Do the right things over and over again. You want to be a better husband? Do the right things over and over again. You want to get closer to God? Do the right things over and over again. Be consistent.

Another great book I’ve mentioned before is The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy. I really like this definition: it is small habits, small decisions done plus consistency, plus time, equals drastic dramatic results. This is kind of what we are talking about when it comes to your blueprint.

LIKE SOME OF YOU ALL have been to some events or you did therapy or counseling or you worked with a coach. You did some deep work. You had some breakthroughs. WAY TO GO!! You put yourself in the right environments. But here is what I want to tell you, I don’t care how great the event was, I don’t care how great the coach or therapist was, I don’t care how great the experience was. IT. DOES. NOT. MATTER. IF. YOU. DO. NOT. KEEP. DOING. THE. WORK. WITH. REPETITION. AND. CONSISTENCY. OVER. TIME. Let me say that again… Keep doing the work over time, the breakthrough that you had will fade without that work.

It never ceases to amaze me whether I am working with a group of clients or one on one, whether it is limiting beliefs or working on values or getting clear about targets in their life or about their identity… they get breakthroughs and then six months, a year later or something, I’ll ask How have you been doing with that? And they’ll answer… I don’t know… I have to go back and look at my notes… I need to review something from the event… And I’m like, What are you talking about? Because if you have to tell me you don’t remember, it didn’t stick and you are not sustaining the lasting change because you don’t have repetition.

That’s why when I talk about everything I do in coaching… it is built upon sustainable transformation. It is not going to come without repetition. When it comes to the big question, HOW CAN I CHANGE MY LIFE? You have got to do some deep work. You have got to rewire your blueprint. And that is kind of a whole other conversation in itself, but once you do the work then YOU have to do it consistently, repeated on a daily basis.

I do something on a daily basis called my creation sequence. We actually break it down in our book, Creating Your Best Life by my mentor and friend Bill Walton and myself. The whole book was created to help you create your best life blueprint so that you can live your best blueprint. And it is a step by step process… how to take that best life blueprint and turn it into a daily creation sequence.

You’re created in the image of God.
Your Father is a creator.
That means YOU ARE A CREATOR.
And YOU should be creating every single day.

And if you don’t create everyday, you’re not going to create the life you want. You’re not going to change your life. Repetition is how you are going to do the work consistently over time and that is how you create the life you want. How do you change your life? Repetition. Consistently.

IMAGINATION

God gave us the gift of imagination. If you close your eyes, imagine your happy place; beach or mountains, childhood home, doesn’t matter… Think about that environment, think about that place, think about that place, think about the emotions that it brings to you, think about a memory you had in that place. Crazy thing about the imagination is some of you didn’t even close your eyes and you started to feel it. THAT is the POWER of the IMAGINATION. The imagination can take the unseen and bring into this physical body… and when you bring that repetition and imagination together, literally you’re releasing thoughts and words. Thoughts and words create power and energy… energy is what creates. Energy is what’s going to materialize something from the invisible to the visible world. That’s what manifestation is. YOUR imagination is this powerful ability that you have to begin releasing creative thoughts about the future.

So let’s say you’re frustrated, you’re disappointed, life hasn’t turned out the way you thought it would… If you are in that place and you’re frustrated… Let me go ahead and tell you it is because your thoughts are consistently on the things that frustrate you and disappoint you. Your thoughts are not on the good stuff. They are not good things that have already happened. They’re focused on the things that frustrated you, disappointed you, the things that have let you down or didn’t work out. So literally, YOU DON’T WANT THAT STUFF, but your thoughts and imagination are focused on it and you keep imagining the worst case scenarios. Thinking if that didn’t work out, why would anything else work out? So literally the thing you don’t want – YOU ARE FOCUSING on it and then you are getting more of it because where your focus goes, energy flows. And what creates energy??? Your focus, your thoughts. Your energy is manifesting what you are thinking about!

How do you change your life? Change your blueprint? Start focusing on different things. This is where we tap into the imagination. This is where we come to some journaling… I was journaling this past week and there’s this verse that God speaks of a blessing. It says, Surely blessing, I will bless you. I will bless you and multiply you. I speak it everyday and then there is also Ephesians 3:20, God’s mighty power to work in you and you accomplish all this. He will achieve infinitely more than your greatest request, your most unbelievable dream and exceed your wildest imagination. He will out do them all for His miraculous power constantly energizes you. That’s the passion translation which is a great little paraphrase translation. And here’s where it hit me a couple of mornings ago. I was talking about blessing and multiplying, unleashing your wildest imagination… I won’t speak for you but it hit me. I realized I am really good at taming my imagination.

And here’s the deal, I’m good at imagining stuff. I can tell you about my future house, how beautiful it is designed by my wife, nature in the backyard, the driveway, lined with trees winding up to the house. And there are big windows on the house. I know I’ve got a wild imagination, but I realized I want to imagine bigger. I WANT TO UNLEASH my wildest imagination and not tame it at all because my head logic – imagining things I don’t need. After journing for a while, I was able to tap into that really wild and untamed wild imagination. I wrote down some things that I’d never written before that were bigger and if I read them to you… you might think I am a little ridiculous! And they excited me.

If you want to rewrite your blueprint, stop taming your imagination. It’s time to unleash it. Repetition and imagination! That is where it is at… and remember, if you shoot for the moon, at least you’ll land among the stars. What if you unleash your imagination in that way? Because no matter how BIG I go with my imagination, the Bible says God will do exceedingly abundantly above all that you ask or imagine. Which means, if you can imagine it… HE can do more than that!! What if you unleash your imagination and give God something to work with to create your life; you want to change your life, change your blueprint. Change it all through repetition and imagination because it is time to unleash your imagination! You are not the manager of your circumstances. You’re the creator of your life. That’s a direct quote from Tony Robbins. So start creating your life!! And this is where you should go out there and give your greatness to the world because somebody needs what is on the inside of you!
