Who’s ready to get a little bit better? Let’s do this people, let’s get a little bit better. Since you are reading this, I know that you are probably at a certain point in your life, where you could be looking at where you are at and where you want to be. Hopefully, we are grateful for where we are, but there is still that spot on the horizon we want to reach. And here’s the question, the foundation to everything we do in personal development and personal growth… How do I get what I want? Now, I’m not one of those people that are like, Hey, don’t be selfish.
We all know that when someone is selling something, we want to know what is in it for me. Even right now, as you are reading, I am sure there are many of you asking, What is in this for me? It is not selfish, it is human. There are desires, hopes and dreams on the inside of you and don’t squash them! Some of you need to stir up those dreams that are on the inside of you. It is time to take your dreams off the shelf, out of the closet, bring them out and say, this is what I really want. I want more.
How Do You Get What You Want?
I’ve got five things you need to do to get what you want, what you desire.
Get clear about what it is that you want. See my definition of more and your definition of more could be totally different. Your definition of more might include more pizza. I hope that isn’t it, I hope you want more than just pizza. Maybe you want to spend MORE time in the mountains. And for me, that would be the beach. I mean I just spent some time in the mountains BUT the beach, that is my happy place. Love it. WE all have different definitions of “more.”
What is more to you? Is it more time with your family, less time in the office? Is it more travel? Is it more adventures? Is it more love in your life?
Get. Clear. About. What. YOU. Want.
The truth is, you cannot get it if you don’t know what you want. Getting clear would be the step before visualizing. And after you know, spend some time everyday visualizing it. Maybe you have it written out in your journal, maybe you have a vision board on your computer or phone. It doesn’t really matter, what matters is you taking the time to soak in your vision. Like, visualize yourself in that place, that moment, making that impact… There are all kinds of things that I have done this with. Some of those things I’ve visualized and I have stepped into that moment that I saw in my mind’s eye years before. Many of the things that I am visualizing these days, I haven’t stepped into those moments yet BUT it is a regular practice.
While you are visualizing, don’t just see it, feel it. Feel it to your core. What are going to be the emotions you feel in that moment? What are going to be the words that you speak when others ask you what it was like? How would you describe it? Visualize it, see it, feel it.
Speak it out, this goes right along with visualizing it. Make it a daily habit. Everyday, you are seeing what you want, speaking what you want… You are creating energy. You are making energy and this is the science behind manifestation. Words and thoughts create energy and that energy eventually has to manifest into the material world.

We talk about this and we talk about the powers of visualizing and speaking. And I also have a little PDF on how to create affirmations if you are getting a little hung up in the details.
One of the biggest things that holds people back from doing daily affirmations, which I totally think you should do, is that they feel silly about it. Like, really I am going to look in the mirror and have a serious conversation with myself. Or what if people hear or see me? I don’t care, YOU ARE FREAKING CREATING YOUR BEST LIFE!! Who cares what other people think? If you’re worried about being silly, you will probably feel silly. Just get over it and do it anyway! There is power and proof behind this that has the ability to help you create the life you want.
This one might not flow like the other ones but you need to get around some big dreamers and doers. And I would go one step further to say that you need to get around some dreamers and doers that are big on action. You can’t get what you want alone and you need to get around the right people.
Proximity. Is. Power. Who you surround yourself with is who you become. You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. Show me your friends and I will show you your future. Pick any one of those phrases because they are all true. So get around some people.
If you are feeling like, I’m not where I want to be. Get around some people that are where you want to be. Get around some people who have gone where you want to go.
I was having a conversation with a dear, dear friend of mine, who also happens to be a client. He said, Mark, there is just something that changes when you have a million dollars in cash in the back. And he has been where I am, he is going where I want to go. He said, You’re going to get there. There’s something about a conversation that marks me to say, I am going to get what I want. For me, it is a calling, it’s a purpose. But there is something about being around someone who has done some of the things that are in your visions. Get around the right people!
Most of the things I talk about, gratitude makes the list because it is just so powerful and it works. You cannot be in a state of anger, frustration, and depression when you are living grateful every day.
Oh my gosh, look, the sun came out. Oh, I have breath in my lungs. I’m alive.
You cannot be depressed and grateful at the same time if you really commit to living in that place. Please don’t send me messages about depression being chemically imbalanced. Gratitude it powerful, I don’t care who you are. I don’t care what obstacles or challenges you have in your life. If you life in a grateful place, you need to do that every day to get to the place where you want to be. You’re not going to close the gap if you are doing this needing a specific outcome. I have recommended the book, The Gap and The Gain, and it is a tremendous read… you just need gratitude everyday.
Be grateful for the day, you have to create it.
This last point is a lesson that I learned early on in my journey and I’m grateful for the coach that said these words to me. He said, Mark, you have got to live on the edge of courage and action. That’s the point. You have got to make it a daily habit. You have got to make speaking, visualizing, and proximity to big dreamers a daily practice in your life.
If you’re only making courage and action an occasional activity in your life, nothing is going to change. I love what Tony Robbins says, “Massive action is the cure-all, but sometimes every day action that you do repeatedly takes courage to live in that place of daily consistent action. We are what we repeatedly do.”
I want to challenge you to live, not just visit occasionally, with courage and action. It is not enough for the people that are counting on you to do it when you want, because what you do is impacting their lives. You can’t just visit courage and action, YOU HAVE GOT TO LIVE ON THE EDGE.
My friend, April Garcia on her PivotMe Podcast, she talks about getting used to running downhill. You’re never going to get used to it. When you are running downhill, you feel a little out of control, but you have to learn how to do it without falling on your face. When you live in courage and action, all of a sudden there’s a momentum that gets bigger than you and starts to carry you. And if you don’t live in that place, you’ll never get used to running down a hill.
